MES Behavior, Attendance & Other Policies
Please read each section carefully, and initial to indicate that you understand
Attendance & Practice Agreement
Registration in the Music Educational Services Band Program is an agreement to attend ALL scheduled classes and performances in a session. Absences for reasons of family emergency and illness will be excused.
Because of the fast paced learning environment, absence from classes may result in a student falling behind. Please remind students of the extra time commitment that is made when joining band.
Band is a school function and should be considered as such, when scheduling other activities, as well as allowing time
for students to do their Band “Homework”– Practice. It is vital that each student spend time practicing their instrument at home. Certain things cannot be learned without practice. We ask students to spend 10-30 minutes every day on practice. In addition, we ask that doctor and dentist appointments be scheduled on days that do not conflict with band whenever possible.

Behavior Agreement
Music Educational Services reserves the right to remove a student from any performing group due to dangerous order defiant behavior. There is a zero tolerance policy for violence, vandalism, and cutting class. Music classes are a privilege, not a right; and it is trusted that all students enroll in music class because they want to learn. For minor violations, Music Educational Services operates on a three-strike system. If a student is removed from class by a staff member more than three times, he or she will be asked to leave the program. Written incident reports will be provided at a parent/guardian’s request to explain each incident in complete detail. Parent/Student/Band Teacherconferences may also be scheduled at any time if the parent/guardian feels that discussion is needed for any reason. All students are expected to behave courteously and to respect all members of Music Educational Services’ staff as well asother students. Music Educational Services prides itself on providing a safe and fun environment for students. Pleasehelp us to maintain this tradition.

Student Pick Up
You must pick your student up on time, following class. Many times, we have classes at other schools immediately following your student’s class. Late pick ups also increase our staff budget unnecessarily. If you are late to pick upyour student, you will be charged for the instructor’s time waiting for you - $5.00 for every 15 minutes late. Students left for more than one (1) Hour after class is over, will be considered abandoned, and the authorities will be contacted to take custody of the student.

Students may be featured in photos, audio recordingsor other written articles about group performances. On public sites, only a student’s first name will appear. If for any reason, you do not want your student pictured on our website, or any other print media, please inform a staff member at the time of registration. Please feel free to ask any questions about our media projects; it is our goal to make you feel ascomfortable as possible.

Information Policy
Communication is an ongoing problem. We hand out schedules, and information flyers on a regular basis, but continually hear, “We never got that information.” Please check your student’s backpack or folder every week after band, so you don’t miss out on any performances or changes that might happen during the year. We will make a digital copy of any handouts available for the school to post on school websites, and Faceoook pages. You can email us at info@mes-ca.org or call (714) 402-5965, if you ever have any questions. We encourage you to be proactive infinding out what’s going on with your student’s band experience.
